Video Project
Project Description
In this project, we worked really hard to get a head start on the video over Spring Break. We took a lot of pictures and videos so that we could pick and choose which clips and stills we could/wanted to use. One resource that was especially helpful throughout this project was the rubric. If we didn’t have the rubric, our project would have been very random. It was helpful because all of the things on the rubric were things that help a video to be more engaging. Also, the rubric helped us to be prepared and organized. It helped us figure out what pieces of video to use where, as well as what we needed to include for the transitions to be smooth and for the video to make sense. Overall, the rubric was one of many resources that we used that helped our project to be more clearly organized and smooth.
Project Reflection
1. What is old, and what is new in any work of art?
In any work of art, old ideas are reinvented and turned into new ideas. To create a piece of art, you might reference other ideas, but then change them and recreate them to make them unique. This is how great pieces of art are formed. By using someone else’s reference, you are adding to the art world and creating another resource for others to get inspiration from.
2. How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication?
Art is used as an interactive and engaging way to express a theme or a new idea. For example, in advertising, companies use art to make a captivating sign that will make people buy or use their product. Art is used because it can set a mood or tone for the idea that is shown. For example, a black and white advertisement may make you feel sad, while a more colorful advertisement might make you excited or happy.
3. What problem-solving skills are employed in making works of art?
In art, you must use problem solving skills to figure out a solution to a problem if anything goes wrong or does not come out as expected. If you have a picture in your head, but are not able to execute this exactly, you have to problem solve to be able to adapt.
4. How are the characteristics and expressive features of art and design used to create art?
Expressions are very important in art because they portray the exact emotions and tone of the piece. Something could be vibrant and cheerful, making the piece unique and happy for the viewer. If the subject has a sad expression, the whole piece feels grey and solemn.
5. Why do Artists Produce Preliminary Plans? (sketches, brainstorms, storyboards, etc?)
Artists produce preliminary plans because this helps them to portray exactly what they want to portray. Without a preliminary plan, the piece of art probably wouldn’t turn out the way that the artist pictured it in their head. With a plan, you can clearly plan out every single step in order to keep yourself on time and to know exactly what you need to accomplish.

Political Cartoon Project:
Project Reflection
In this project, we created political cartoons voicing our opinions on the movie, “Blackfish”. We were taught many different tools to create an effective cartoon. Using project objectives, we stayed on track and met certain goals.
I believe that I met the project objectives by creating a simple idea that captures the big picture of this issue. My political cartoon gets my message out by creating awareness. It makes people realize what Sea World is actually about, and why they do what they do. It is often easy to forget that these animals are held in basically large swimming pools. This political cartoon shows not only that the animals are held captive in too-small spaces, but also that all Sea World wants, in the end, is to keep making money.
Art is a great way to get a message out to an audience, as it is universal and is appealing to the eye. Art is an unspoken, uniform language, as it is easy to communicate through objects. Information can be shared artistically through many different medias, and it is easy for everyone to understand. Furthermore, art is appealing and draws your eye in, capturing your attention. Although some people may enjoy reading an essay rather than viewing art, it would be more engaging to see a piece of artwork that really captures your attention.
Creating art is very different from viewing art for many reasons. the first reason is that everyone has their own opinion and perspective, so a piece of art can be taken very differently. The artist might mean one thing, while the viewer see something totally different. Overall, there really is no right or wrong way to see art. Furthermore, it may be difficult for others to see your one message if you have too many ideas in one piece. It could get confusing to the viewer if there are too many themes that you are trying to carry out.

Pre-historic art project
Project Description
In the beginning of this project, we learned basic drawing techniques during a prehistoric art lecture, and I then applied these techniques to a wolf sketch. We learned some more techniques, and took a break from learning about prehistoric art when we made our drawings regarding the Paris shooting. This is my power of the pen drawing.
Of course, we couldn’t make these drawings based off of our then limited drawing skills and our memorized versions of the images, so we needed additional resources. I used the step-by-step drawing handouts when drawing my prehistoric drawings in order to ensure that my shapes were similar. For my Je Suis Charlie drawing, I used multiple images combined to get my message across. I used an image of a tree, sparks, an arrow, and the symbol for chaos, and then used drawing tools (pen, pencil, etc) in the image as well. My drawing represents chaos fighting, shooting an arrow, while the community breaks the arrow into many arrows, fighting back. The tree is the community, showing that we can stick together.
After drawing, we used the Image Trace tool in Adobe Illustrator. I feel as though the image trace tool helped my drawing to be more in-depth, as well as more appealing to the eye, adding color. In the future, I will use this tool to add color to my art, as well as using other tools to show lines and darker parts of my drawings. It is a useful tool to get an outline, as well.

Artist Statement
Life is full of colors and grays, and is always moving. The split colors signify how quickly and drastically life changes. They also represent the changes I feel emotionally. Furthermore, the two faces also represent these emotional changes. The back-walkover shows a few things. The first is my love for gymnastics. The second is how confusing life can get and how it sometimes feels like you're going through the same motions over and over again.
Teacher creature project
Project reflectionDuring this project, I learned many new and helpful Photoshop skills. We started out by watching tutorials, which was very helpful because it helped me become familiar with the tools and how to use specific techniques. Then we started working on our projects, using our recently learned tools. I started with a background (which I later changed) and a picture of gollum along with Hannah’s picture. I ended up changing the background. The hardest part of the project was trying to make Hannah’s face match Gollum’s. It was really difficult because his face had red and green splotches, making it really hard to blend. I used the clone-stamp tool on a separate layer with a low opacity to balance it out. My favorite part of this project was learning new skills and learning how to use techniques that professionals charge money for (i.e. removing braces). This was my favorite part because it was interesting to see how simple it can be. I learned that I take time for detail and I refine until I get something to be the way I want it. This helps me understand that I take a lot of time on each detail and I need to work on time management. I have learned that I am a problem solver. If something doesn’t work, I figure out a way to refine it and make it work. Overall, this project was really helpful and really beneficial. I learned a lot of skills that I will use in other projects. |
Photoshop tutorials
I used the quick selection tool and the clone stamp tool to remove the watermark.
I used the warp tool to change the teeth.
I used the patch tool, the clone stamp, and the smudge tool to remove braces.
LandscAPES: UNDERSTANDING DISTANCE WITH SCALE & PROPORTION
Landscape project reflection
I learned many useful photoshop skills during this project. More specifically, I learned how to make photoshopped items more believeable. I learned how to make edges feathered so that it wouldn’t have so much contrast. I also learned how to effectively incorporate foreground, middleground, and background, as well as the definitions of all three. Foreground includes high contrast, color, focus, detail, and texture. In the middleground, the details become blurred together, objects become mid-sized(but are still visible), and colors become muted. In the background, there is little to no contrast, the individual objects merge together and form a clump, and the color is almost non-existent. We also learned about scale. A horse in the foreground has to be bigger than a horse in the background in order to be believeable. Furthermore, we learned about the difference between a photoshop document (.psd) and a JPEG. We learned that a photoshop document can be continually edited, while a JPEG is what we need to save the document as in order to upload it. A photoshop document saves the individual layers and lets us modify them, while a JPEG saves it all as one. Overall, I learned many valuable skills that I will use in projects to come.
name project
This is my name project. I used the gradient tool, a drop shadow, the smudge tool, and paintbrushes with low opacity to create this. We went outside and we took pictures of things that looked like letters in our name.
